Chapter 01

This was a very monotonous room, with walls and ceilings showing a metallic texture. There were no windows, and the only source of light came from a white spotlight on the ceiling.

On the wall directly opposite the door was a timer, its faint blue light displaying: February 19, 35th year, 11:06 PM.

Two minutes later, a halo of light appeared in the room out of nowhere, accompanied by the sound of a mechanical female voice.

"An Cheng, congratulations on completing the 99th world task. Total time used: February 19, 35th year, 23 hours and 8 minutes. Next, you can choose to start the next task or take a short break."

As the voice finished speaking, the halo of light slowly dissipated, revealing An Cheng's figure in the room.

The female voice paused for a moment, then continued, "Friendly reminder: You only need to complete one more task to meet the reincarnation conditions and leave this place."

An Cheng replied, "I’ll think about it."

An Cheng had been dead for countless years. After his death, his soul had been working on quick transmigration tasks in this world. Of course, it wasn't for nothing—completing a hundred tasks would grant him rebirth and a billion assets.

For the poor An Cheng, this was a very tempting offer, allowing him to transform into an ever-energetic powerhouse!

An Cheng made up his mind almost instantly: "Send me to the next world."

He wanted to embrace a new life and the billion assets as soon as possible.

Mechanical Female Voice: "Command received. Starting to match the next world, please wait."

"World matching successful… Binding related system…"

"System binding successful. Preparing to start teleportation. Please close your eyes and wait."

An Cheng opened his eyes to see a white ceiling, with the sound of objects bumping and scraping against each other in his ears.

He knew he had arrived in the task world but did not rush to integrate into it. Instead, he closed his eyes again and called out in his mind, "System, come out and briefly introduce this task."

A cute little cat appeared in his mind and spoke, "Hello, host, I am System 007."

An Cheng responded, "A well-established old system, huh?"

Quick Transmigration Bureau systems are all numbered, starting from 001 and incrementing sequentially. By now, there should be over twenty thousand.

Systems with an 00 prefix are considered antiques.

The little cat twitched its ears and raised its whiskers as if smiling. "That's because every host's hundredth task, the Quick Transmigration Bureau sends out some veteran systems to increase the success rate of the task. It’s also considered a benefit."

Quite considerate.

An Cheng gestured for the system to continue.

The little cat continued, "This is a world evolved from a novel. The protagonist Bai Qing has exceptional financial talent. He should have smoothly completed his undergraduate and graduate studies and gradually become a financial tycoon. However, due to his appearance attracting too many scoundrels, he has suffered numerous abuses and ultimately fallen into a quagmire."

“Novel text has been transmitted to the host’s mind. Please review it quickly.”

An Cheng listened to the system's introduction, initially thinking this was a story about the protagonist enduring suffering and gradually falling into a downward spiral of realistic literature.

However, after skimming through the plot in his mind, his face turned pale.

“What is this inappropriate novel!” This is definitely some kind of group play!

The little cat, covering its face shyly, responded, “It’s precisely because the plot is... that the host needs to change everything.”

An Cheng took a moment to calm down. “Continue.”

“Your task is to protect the protagonist’s rear end and ensure he can smoothly finish university and enter graduate school. Everything will then return to a normal trajectory.”

An Cheng nodded. This didn’t sound too difficult, unlike his previous tasks which involved climbing mountains, crossing fires, and dodging bullets.

After the plot and task were explained, the little cat began to introduce An Cheng’s current identity.

“As usual, the host still goes by the name An Cheng. Your parents are alive, and you have a younger brother. You are now the protagonist’s roommate.”

“Hmm, what’s the special ability for this task?”

When undertaking a mission, a special ability is naturally needed. Otherwise, how could he save the plot without standing out?

The little cat hesitated a bit before finally mustering up the courage. “As you know, every protagonist in this type of story needs a roommate who is perpetually asleep.”

An Cheng had a bad premonition.

“Your special ability is that you will fall into a deep sleep during the protagonist’s moments of danger and remain asleep.”

An Cheng: ...

Is this really considered a special ability?

An Cheng frowned and looked at the cute little cat in his mind, beginning to question its status as an experienced system.

The little cat blinked its eyes and meowed twice, “The introduction is complete. I’m very tired now, so I’ll take a rest.”

It rolled briefly in the air and then disappeared from An Cheng’s mind, as if escaping.

An Cheng couldn’t help but laugh in frustration. He propped himself up and leaned against the wall to sit.

The current body was similar in build to his own, with long legs, but the dormitory bed was too narrow. He let one of his legs hang off the side of the bed, barely managing to sit down.

The other people in the dorm had been tidying up, and upon hearing the noise from the bed, they paused. When they saw a leg dangling from the bed along with a vaguely disdainful snort, they were at a loss about what to do.

They did not realize that someone was sleeping in the dorm.

An Cheng was still massaging his temples to clear his thoughts when he heard a clear and pleasant voice from below the bed. “Sorry, we didn’t realize you were resting. We disturbed you.”

As Bai Qing spoke, the boy who had been sitting behind a chair and playing with his phone looked up in surprise and glanced over.

Hearing the voice, An Cheng guessed that this was the protagonist speaking. He leaned forward to look down from the bed.

Bai Qing had his chin slightly lifted, his delicate, fair face displaying a pair of exquisite, bright eyes full of sincerity and apology.

He wore a simple white T-shirt and long pants, and the plain clothing only accentuated his smooth, attractive lines.

An Cheng’s eyes were satisfied. Indeed, he was good-looking.

If it were up to An Cheng’s own nature, he would have smiled and shaken his head, saying it was nothing. He would have taken the opportunity to get closer to Bai Qing.

However, this body’s original persona was that of a cold and aloof young master who did not like to speak, and deviating from this would be highly undesirable.

Because once the task ends, the host will leave, but the original owner of this body will continue living, albeit with all the memories of this period.

An Cheng could only wave his hand and say, “It’s fine.”

Though their conversation ended coolly, it opened the door for another person to speak.

Chen He walked to the center of the dormitory with a bright tone, “From today onwards, we are roommates. Should we introduce ourselves and exchange WeChat contacts?”

When he said the last four words, Chen He looked at Bai Qing with a smile.

Under his gaze, Bai Qing nodded and began to introduce himself. “Hello, I’m Bai Qing, from the 2024 Finance Department.”

Chen He went next, speaking more about himself, “I’m Chen He, a local from City A, also a freshman in the Finance Department. I usually enjoy playing musical instruments. If you’re interested, we can play together.”

An Cheng recalled Chen He’s name and quickly remembered his storyline.

On the first day of moving into the dormitory, Chen He fell for Bai Qing at first sight and later became friends through interaction. Unfortunately, he discovered that Bai Qing did not have romantic feelings for him, which led him to develop malicious intentions.

One night, when the other two roommates were not around, Chen He spiked a drink he gave to Bai Qing. Using this, he became Bai Qing’s first man.

An Cheng contemplated this explosive plot and felt a surge of anger, wanting to beat up this scumbag and drag him out right now.

When it was his turn to introduce himself, he spoke with a somewhat unfriendly tone, simply stating his name, “An Cheng.”

The fourth person in the dorm, wearing thick glasses and looking socially awkward, was the last to speak. “Hello, I’m Wang Qimeng. I’m happy to be roommates with everyone.”

They then all exchanged contacts and created a group chat.

An Cheng stepped down from the bed and walked to the balcony to freshen up. His bed was far from the balcony, and he had to pass by Bai Qing and Chen He’s beds.

He glanced at Chen He, who was heading towards Bai Qing’s area with an odd sense of anticipation.

An Cheng remained expressionless on the surface but internally complained: Just moved in, and you’re already so eager?

As the "ice block" of the dorm went to the balcony, Chen He felt a sense of relief and approached Bai Qing with a smile.

Bai Qing was sitting in a chair, looking at a thin booklet on the desk. Chen He noticed it was the freshman handbook.

He smiled and said, “You’re actually reading the freshman handbook.”

Bai Qing looked up, his long eyelids lifting, and a smile lingering at the corners of his mouth. “Anyway, it’s nothing important, just casually browsing.”

Chen He leaned slightly on the chair where Bai Qing was sitting. “Where is your home? I didn’t catch that before.”

“City B.”

“That’s quite far away. Were your parents okay with it?”

Bai Qing smiled. “I’m their son. What’s there to be reluctant about?”

Chen He nodded. “That’s true. I often go on road trips during the holidays, and my parents don’t seem to mind.”

Bai Qing nodded. “Exactly.”

“It seems our parents trust us a lot,” Chen He asked casually, “What do your parents do?”

Although An Cheng was on the balcony washing up, he kept his attention on Bai Qing and Chen He. Hearing this question, he felt a twinge of sarcasm. This person really has no sense of boundaries.

Bai Qing’s smile faded slightly, and his gaze returned to the freshman handbook. “They’re just ordinary workers.”

Chen He, however, persisted with a smile. “Ordinary workers, huh? How could they possibly be willing to buy a Gibson guitar? If I’m not mistaken, it’s a Tom Murphy series Black Beauty, which isn’t cheap.”

Bai Qing didn’t respond this time, only offering a shallow smile.

Chen He was not deterred. “Come on, tell me. I’ll share about my parents in return. They’re both in education.”

The usually quiet Wang Qimeng spoke up, his tone not very firm. “Chen He, if Bai Qing doesn’t want to say, you should respect that.”

Chen He smiled and countered, “We’re roommates now. We’ll find out eventually, so it’s better to know sooner rather than later.”

An Cheng casually washed his face, then passed by Chen He and Bai Qing, returning to his spot and pulling out a chair.

He intentionally didn’t lift the chair fully, letting its legs scrape against the granite floor with an unpleasant sound.

The dormitory fell into silence again, with An Cheng alone appearing unfazed as he bent over to put on his shoes.

Chen He, considering himself sociable, broke the silence first. He addressed An Cheng, “An Cheng, you should try to be a bit quieter next time, or the students downstairs might complain.”

An Cheng didn’t respond, maintaining his aloof persona as expected. It was more normal for him not to speak.

After putting on his shoes, An Cheng casually walked a few steps around the bed, ending up next to Bai Qing and Chen He.

He glanced at his wristwatch, the hands showing 5:40.

An Cheng asked, “Shall we go for a meal?”

Chen He’s expression seemed somewhat unnatural. “Sure, it’s about meal time anyway.”

An Cheng didn’t even look at him, speaking in a nonchalant tone, “I wasn’t asking you.”

He tilted his head slightly and looked at Bai Qing, who was seated in the chair. “Bai Qing, are you coming?”
